Al Purdy A-frame Association (the “Association”)
Statement of Principles
To all current, prospective and future:
- members of the Association,
- directors of the Association,
- officers of the Association,
- employees,
- committee members,
- volunteers,
- guests and visitors at the A-frame, and
- writers-in-residence
The Association is a not-for-profit corporation and a registered charity. We own and operate the Al and Eurithe Purdy A-frame in Ameliasburgh, Ontario (the “A-frame”).
The charitable objects of the Association are:
- To educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of Canadian poetry and literature;
- To educate and increase the public’s understanding of the arts generally by offering courses, seminars, retreats and workshops relating to writing and to provide performances of an artistic nature; and
- To do such things which are incidental to and in furtherance of the charitable undertakings of the [Association].
The Association is proud of its writers-in-residence program, its public events and its other activities, which promote the charitable undertakings of the Association.
We encourage and welcome applications and we will consider all qualified individuals who wish to be members of the Association, directors of the Association, officers of the Association, employees, committee members, volunteers and/or writers-in-residence, regardless of:
- Age
- Ancestry, colour, race
- Ethnic origin
- Place of origin
- Creed, Religion
- Disability
- Family status
- Marital status
- Gender, gender identity, gender expression
- Sex; and
- Sexual orientation
We value equality, diversity and inclusion generally, and we are committed to promoting and maintaining public trust and confidence in the Association.
All allegations of discrimination, harassment and/or other inappropriate behavior that are made against members of the Association, directors of the Association, officers of the Association, employees, committee members, volunteers, guests and visitors at the A-frame, and/or writers-in-residence and which are brought to our attention will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, members, directors, officers, employees, committee members and volunteers may be asked to resign, may be placed on temporary leave pending further investigation, or may be dismissed from their positions. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, guests and visitors at the A-frame and writers-in-residence may have their offers to stay at the A-frame or to visit the A-frame placed in abeyance pending further investigation, or withdrawn.
The dignity of all individuals is important to us. We will not tolerate or condone any form of discrimination, harassment and/or other inappropriate behaviour, and we will not ignore any allegations of discrimination, harassment and/or other inappropriate behaviour brought to our attention.
