Ken Babstock was born in Burin, Newfoundland, in 1970 and grew up in the Ottawa Valley. He has been published internationally and his poems have won numerous awards. His first poetry collection, Mean, published in 1999, won both the Milton Acorn Award and the Atlantic Poetry Prize. Airstream Land Yacht, published in 2006, won the Trillium Book Award and was shortlisted as well for the Griffin Poetry Prize and the Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry. Babstock received the Griffin Poetry Prize in 2012 for Methodist Hatchet, his fourth collection of poetry. His fifth collection of poetry, On Malice, was named the inaugural recipient of the Latner Writers Trust Poetry Prize, an annual literary award given to a mid-career poet in recognition of a remarkable body of work and in anticipation of future contributions to Canadian poetry.
